MARK Higgs hit an unbeaten century at better than a run-a-ball before paceman Shaun Tait snared three quick wickets to put South Australia in command on day two of their Pura Cup cricket match against Tasmania.
In reply to the Redbacks' 6(dec)-500, the Tigers were 5-155 at stumps, trailing by 345 runs and needing 196 runs to avoid the follow-on.
Tasmania's chances of staying in the match rested with Sean Clingeleffer and Michael Di Venuto, who had played aggressively to be unbeaten on 80 from 114 balls at stumps on day one.
SA started yesterday at 1-266, and were able to declare at tea after Higgs scored 112 not out from 94 balls. David Fitzgerald top-scored with 147 and skipper Greg Blewett made 88.
Tait then ensured SA finished the day in control when he took two wickets in two balls late in the final session.
