Elliott Stands Down

VICTORIAN cricket vice-captain Matthew Elliott stood down from the position one match into the 2002-03 season yesterday.
Elliott, who would have captained the side for most matches because of the international commitments of captain Shane Warne, had just led the Bushrangers to an outright loss against South Australia at Adelaide Oval.
He said he was giving up the role because he wanted to concentrate purely on his batting.
Former skipper Darren Berry will take over the role.
Siddons coaching
FORMER Victorian and South Australian captain and Australian one-day international player Jamie Siddons was appointed yesterday as the Redbacks assistant coach.
Siddons, who retired from first-class cricket in 2000, scored 10,643 runs in his 146 Sheffield Shield/Pura Cup matches, trailing only Redbacks skipper Darren Lehmann on the all-time list.
He replaces Tim Nielsen, who recently left his post with the SA side to become the Australian assistant coach.
SA cricket manager Greg Chappell said he was pleased to have Siddons' experience to call on.
